4 things that put me off your blog

I read blogs. In my opinion, I read quite a lot of them. The good, the bad and the ok. (Although I’m always on the look out for new ones so leave our links below!) During my reading of said blogs, I’ve picked up things that I don’t like about people’s blogs. Only small things but they’re things that put me off the blog and so I wanted to share them so you can check you’re not falling victim to any of these ‘mistakes’.

  • Apologising for long blog post-I do hate it when people start their blog post with ‘Sorry, this is a long one.’ People are choosing to read your blog, they’re not being forced to read it. If they want to read it, they won’t mind how long or short the post is. In fact, they probably prefer the longer posts. STOP APPOLOGISING!!! I don’t mind it when it starts with ‘Warning, this is a long post so get relaxed’ that’s fine but please don’t apologise for spending a long time writing an extra long blog post for us to read.
  • Spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes– I know I’m guilty of this from time to time but it does put me off a blog when a post has regular spelling and grammar mistakes. A key one is no capital letters or capitals in weird places. To me, lots of mistakes makes me feel like the post is rushed and you haven’t put in the time and care or it feels very amateur. You as the blogger want people to read your blog so please read it through twice and correct the mistakes you can!
  • Posts without a photo– Again, I do this once or twice but I do like a photo in each blog post even if it’s only one. It again makes it feel like you put in the effort and it makes the post feel longer. Plus good photography is always a bonus!
  • Not posting in a while– I am DEFINEITLY guilty of this! I always leave such big gaps between each post but not posting makes your blog seem abandoned and doesn’t bring in the readers.

Apart from these, I generally am guaranteed to love your blog!Β  I just felt like explaining what puts me off your blog because it takes so little to get it wrong but at the same time if you don’t do these it’s very easy to get into my ‘Good Blog’ books!

    1. I’ve created a blogging schedule for this year and I hope to get my blog post scheduled early enough in advance that it doesn’t matter if I’m busy for a week or two! Thank you for taking the time to readπŸ’•

  1. I am guilty of sporadic posts 😩 I’ve had this blog for 3 years and I left and come back because I couldn’t find the right balance but I’m dedicated to making sure this goes well for me. xx
